PURTELL

I'm a design lead with over 15 years experience managing successful teams and projects. Currently I lead the design team at Fifty Zoo.

principles

I believe design is a science, and that design thinking is our equivalent to the scientific method. I believe that good design lies not only in the hands-on craft of wireframes and screen designs, but also in effectively aligning and harnessing the strengths, knowledge, and creativity of the entire team to solve complex challenges.

I'm fascinated by our relationship with technology and in how it affects us both as individuals and at a societal level. There are clear challenges ahead (👋🏻 Elon, Peter Thiel, etc, etc...), nevertheless I still feel a sense of wonder and optimism at where we might be headed and I love working with people who feel the same way.

Things I've been inspired by lately

April Inspiration:

MoMA artists playing with AI

A series of fascinating experiments conducted by artists to showcase how AI can become a tool to empower creatives rather than the end of their careers.

Chatbot UI is terrible:

How might we as designers evolve the current chatbot UI to offer more nuanced controls so that users get better outputs when using generative AI tools?

Arabic Design Archive

Beautiful collection of design from the middle east, spanning the past 100 years. So much interesting stuff here!
